artcommune will be conducting a talk that aims to equip participants with a basic understanding of the early art scene in Singapore. This session will discuss:
1. Pre-war Singapore art
2. Post-war Singapore art
3. The Nanyang Era, 1950s to 60s
4. Some important 1st-generation artists, as listed below:
Nanyang school (Cheong Soo Pieng, Chen Wen Hsi, Yeh Chi Wei, Lim Hak Tai)
Traditional Chinese school (Wu Tsai Yan, Fan Chang Tien, and See Hiang To)
Chinese calligraphers (Chan Shou She, Pan Shou, Tsue Ta Tee and Goh Teck Sian)
Artists from the British system (Lim Cheng Hoe)
