Held in conjunction with a documentary film project by Filmat36, artcommune gallery proudly presents Memories of Singapore River: Paintings by Local Artists. Many second-generation Singapore artists have held a deep affinity for Singapore River, being one of their favourite locations where they often gathered to paint en plein air, especially in the 1970s and 80s. Beyond its economic value as a trading port, the iconic landmark was a significant source of inspiration for many of them.
Featuring more than 15 artworks from the early post-independence years to the recent years, this special showcase provides a recollection of the nostalgic Singapore River rendered in various mediums and artistic expressions. The artists whose works will be exhibited include: Ang Ah Tee, Chua Mia Tee, Gog Sing Hooi, Hua Chai Yong, Leng Joon Wong, Lim Tze Peng, Low Puay Hua, Ong Kim Seng, Seah Kim Joo, Tan Choh Tee, Tong Chin Sye. This exhibition is part of Singapore’s bicentennial celebration during the Singapore Art Week 2019.
